Big Star Taekwondo Academy was founded in June 2020 by Master Chony Basnet, with the goal of cultivating world-class Taekwondo talent from India. Since its establishment, the academy has emerged as the premier martial arts institution in Maharashtra. We are dedicated to revitalizing martial arts as both a physical and spiritual discipline promoting a harmonious lifestyle amid the pressures of modern life. Offering classes in Aurangabad and Pune, we invite individuals aged 4 to 60 to join our vibrant community, we fosterr a supportive environment that encourages participation at all levels, including local, national, and competitions.

Big Star Taekwondo Academy was founded by Master Chony Basnet. Master Chony is one of the leading Taekwondo instructors in Maharashtra.
Master Chony continues to be highly involved in the operation of all of our locations. He conducts instructor training for our full time staff on a weekly basis, and oversees the student belt testing process for both color belt and black belt exams.
He personally developed the curriculum taught in our centers and designed it to be a balance of traditional Taekwondo forms, practical self defense, and Olympic Style sparring skills.
Master Chony's philosophy is that Taekwondo is about self improvement as well as self defense. This is evident in our teaching methods. Our instructors focus on teaching “life skills” just as much as physical techniques. We help students of all levels to gain increased focus, confidence, and determination that they can apply to all areas of their life.

Master Santosh Basnet is a trailblazer in the world of Taekwondo and one of India’s foremost coaches, renowned for his pioneering contributions to the sport, especially in the Marathwada region. A World Taekwondo Level-2 Certified International Coach, he is celebrated as the first international Taekwondo coach from Marathwada and one of the earliest to introduce Taekwondo in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) and its neighboring districts.In 2020, Santosh, alongside his brother Chony, founded the Big Star Taekwondo Academy, a premier institution that has rapidly become a cornerstone for Taekwondo excellence in the region. As the head coach, Santosh has been the driving force behind the academy's success, creating a legacy of nurturing champions, producing top-tier athletes, and expanding the sport’s footprint in India.With a coaching career spanning over 7 years and experience in 13+ countries, Master Santosh has earned global recognition for his expertise and leadership. Little Ninjas
For Ages 4-7
The Little Ninjas Program is a fun and exciting way to get little minds and bodies active in learning the skills of Taekwondo.
We use themes, games, awards and other strategies to make sure kids want to come back for more.
Senior, Advanced and Black Belt
Age 13+
The Advanced Program is for Senior Dragons (over Age 13) or any Advanced student typically Brown Belt and above.Advanced students do more rigorous conditioning of core strength, arm and leg strength for effective punching, striking and kicking.
Black Belt classes follow on from Advanced Classes giving unique training experiences for our strongest students. Self Defence Sparring, defending against multiple opponents and Elite Level training gives our Black Belts a lifetime of skills to Master.
Junior Dragons
For Ages 8-12
The Junior Dragons Program gets a little more serious but doesn’t lack the fun.
Junior Dragons learn forms, Self Defences, Contact Sparring more rigorous fitness and flexibility training, design to boost anyone’s confidence.

These are speciality classes design for those with competition in mind. Join our State, National and International Level Sparring Team with an unprecedented 5 National Champions from 2019.
Poomsae is competition for forms, our Poomsae Team has spent years perfecting their routines, come learn the intricacies of poomsae and show your level of technique and skill.
Maharashtra's Ishwari Sonawane to represent India in 4th Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championship in Vietnam
Aurangabad based Taekwondo Star Ishwari Sonawane is ready to compete in Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championship to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from August 24 to August 25, 2022.Ishwari Sonawane has recently represented country in World Cadet Taekwondo Championship at Sofia, Bulgaria in month of July 2022.Ishwari has won several medals at National and International Level including Bronze Medal at Heroes Cup in Thailand and Gold Medal in National Level Taekwondo selection trials of India Taekwondo this year. Ishwari is trained & mentored by Mr. Santosh Basnet who will also be the Coach for Indian Taekwondo Team to the Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championship. How old do you have to be to train in Taekwondo?We train students as young as 5 years old. You are never too old to start taekwondo, as long as you do not have existing joint or back problems. Properly taught, taekwondo does not usually create injuries, but it can exacerbate existing conditions.

Do I have to buy a uniform?Yes, we recommend our athletes to buy World Taekwondo approved uniforms like Tusah, Daedo & Kwon.

How do students earn a new belt?Big Star Taekwondo Academy's students must pass a test to earn a higher rank. Promotional testing is an exciting event for us! We hold a testing every three months. Parents and friends are invited to come and watch. No classes are held on testing days. After a successful testing, the student is awarded a new rank and given a rank certificate in class.

How long does it take to get black belt?2 years, it takes two years to become black belt Dan-1 in Taekwondo.First you need to pass your all color belt tests, after that you are eligible for black belt Dan/Poom test
