Ishwari Sonawane 14, a youngest and first Taekwondo athlete from Maharashtra to have played in World & Asian Taekwondo Championship from Maharashtra is all set to become the Olympic Champion.
Hailing from the Aurangabad (a.k.a. Chh. Sambhajinagar) District of Maharashtra, Ishwari studies in the class 9 in Onkar Vidyalaya School.
Ishwari was introduced to Taekwondo by her father Nilesh Sonawane and her uncle Suresh Sonawane back in year 2020 at the age of 11.
Ishwari has won bronze medal in Heroes Cup at Bangkok, Thailand and Gold Medal in India Taekwondo national team selection trials at Nashik, India.
Ishwari has represented India in World Taekwondo Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria and Asian Taekwondo Championship in Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam in year 2022.
Ishwari has carved her way into the world of taekwondo, leaving permanent fingerprints on it on a global scale, and is aiming for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Earlier, Ishwari's parents were widely criticized by the different sections of society for choosing this as a profession for their daughter. " Even our relatives used to tell us not to waste time on some fuss that has no future for your daughter. Despite all of this, we encouraged our daughter to prove her doubters wrong and she finally became the part of National Taekwondo team, " says her father, Nilesh Sonawane.
Ishwari trains at Big Star Taekwondo Academy run by Indian born Nepalese brothers, Master Chony and Master Santosh Basnet.
"I am training hard everyday and giving my best to become what my parents and I are dreaming for and will definitely succeed in it" said Ishwari in her recent interview to a Big Star Talk Show.
Ishwari is also the part of Indian National Taekwondo team for 10th Fujairah Open International Taekwondo Championship, ranked G2 in United Arab Emirates in February 2022.
